About the Translators
Dr. Mudumbai Narasimhachary (b.1939) is an erudite scholar of Vedanta with specialization in Srivaishnava Religion and Philosophy. He was initiated into the Srivaishnava tradition by the late H.H. Sri.Sri.Sri. Tridandi Srimannarayana Jeeyar Swami. Foundar Professor of the Department of Vaishnavism, University of Madras (India) in 1984, he retired from service in 1999. He holds two M.A degrees - in Sanskrit and Telugu. He was awarded Ph.D in 1967 by the University of Madras, for the thesis on "Contribution of Sri Yamunacharya to Visistadvaita" under the able guidance of Dr.V. Raghavan. He had traditional training in Advaita under Bhasyabhavajna Sri. Varahoor Kalyanasundara Sastrigal and in Visistadvaita under Sri. Abhinava Desika Sri.U.Ve. Uttamur Veeraraghavacharya Swami and Vagamrutavarsi Sri.U.Ve.Velukkudi Varadacharya Swamy. He has special aptitude for Pre-Ramanuja Srivaishnava Religion and Philosophy, Pancharatra Agama, Sanskrit Literature, grammar, Poetic and Literary criticism, as also Telugu Literature. Proficient in several languages like Sanskrit, Telugu, Tamil, Malay, German and English, he has been a source of inspiration and guidance for students at all levels from all over the country.
Visiting Professor of Sanskrit, Indian Philosophy and Hindu Theology of the University of Malaya, Malaysia, Mercyhurst College, Pennsylvania, Rochester University, Oxford University, UK, and Mahatma Gandhi Institute, Mauritius, he has been and is teaching and guiding a number of scholars from foreign countries in their Indological studies. He has to his credit 30 original works and 75 research articles published in Journals of high standard both in India and abroad. He has edited several unpublished manuscripts and translated many works from Sanskrit to English. He has so far guided officially about 30 researchers for their Ph.D.
Velukkudi Sri.U.Ve. Krishnan Swami is an erudite scholar in the Srivaishnava traditional lore. Born as the son of the illustrious late Vagamrutavarsi Sri.U.Ve.Velukkudi Varadachariar Swami, Sri. Krishnan Swami has carved out a niche for himslf in the hearts of all lovers of Srivaishnavism. A Charted Accountant by profession, he gave up his lucrative job for the sake of upholding and rejuvenating the Srivaishnava tradition into which he was born, and is acquitting himself in that field with commendable success. He had his training under his father and has earned the title Baala Vaagamrutavarsi.
Young and energetic, devoted and dedicated to Satsampradaya, Sri. Krishnan is a popular household figure among TV watchers, especially youth all over the country, expounding with amazing ease, texts like the Divyaprabandha, Upanishads, Ashtadasa Rahasya, Gita, Sri Ramayana and Gadyatraya in a style which is unique, sweet and simple, casting a spell over his wide audiences. He leads a few a trusts which are involved in constructive social services.
Widely traveled both in India and abroad, Sri Krishnan Swami may be described as a leading star in the firmament of Srivaishnava Religion and Philosophy.
