The Emperor of the Triple Domain
Our sampradayam is one of triads. We have several beautiful juxtapositions of entities that live in threes. At the core, we have three fundamental principia - the Tirumantram, Dwayam and Charama Slokam. The Supreme Lord Sriman Narayana, among his infinite qualities, has three primary ones - Paratvam (supremacy), Soulabhyam (attainability) and Soundaryam (unsurpassed beauty). Our sacred thread (yagnopaveetam) is composite of three strands and each of these three are in turn composed of three each. The famous Mandapa-Trayam - Bhoga Mandapam (Srirangam Periya Kovil), Pushpa Mandapam (Tirumala) and Tyaga Mandapam (Kanchipuram Hastigiri) - also constitute an interesting triplet. All our renunciate saints (sanyasis) carry a "tridandam" - staff comprising three sticks. The Omkaram i.e. Pranavam is split into three syllables - a, u, m. The entire Vedic System of Thought (vaideeka siddhantam) is based on three texts called the Prasthana Trayi - Upanishads, Brahma Sutras and Bhagavad Geeta.
One such interesting triad is the qualities that a servant of the Lord must possess. They are the qualities that define each and every one of the nine relationships that we share with the Supreme Lord. Each and every one of us must inculcate these qualities and nurture them. They are - jgyana (knowledge), bhakti (devotion) and vairagya (detachment). The nature and importance of these qualities are abound in our literature. Right from Srimad Bhagavatham, The Upanishads and the Nalayira Divya Prabandham aim to implant these characteristics in us. One person who epitomized these qualities was none other then Sriman Nathamunigal. All his thaniyans (encomia), typically bring out his ability to define his life in a framework comprising of these values.
The annual birth asterism of Sriman Nathamunigal falls today, 9th July 2014. This is the tamizh month of Aani, the ascendant asterism being Anusham. It is celebrated with great pomp and splendor across the entire span of the Srivaishnava Sampradayam. It heralds a new era of Srivaishnava acharyas who have, from time immemorial, been devoted to the cause of spreading the true import of the Vedas.
During this occassion, VEDICS Foundation is happy to present a montage of audio, video and photos from the utsavam. We enabled a few artists setup stage and offer their performances to the resident Emperuman Sri Viranarayana Perumal, Thayar, Kattu Mannar Emperuman and our beloved Acharya Sreshtars. We thank the support of the local people of Kattu Mannar Koil, the Acharya Purushas, sthalathars, archaka-paricharakas and most importantly the officials of the HRCE.
