Q:  What is the meaning of the word, ‘purana’?

 A:  The word, ‘purana’, refers to the record of happenings in the past. Puranas contain the deeds of creation, protection and destruction of the Supreme Lord, the genealogical details of the successive old races, ‘manvantharas’ (the division of time and space) and other happenings of yore are described.
