By this definition, the elucidative work of Manu , known as Manu's 'Dharma Sasthra' and other works, which elucidate the Vedas, like the ithihasas (Ramayana and Mahabharatha) and the puranas are considered as smrithis. Vyasa's 'Brahma Soothras' also confirm this opinion. However, 'dharma sasthras' like the work of Manu etc alone are traditionally called as smrithis.
