Chapter1: The Basics-3

Q:  What are the subjects elucidated in the two sections of the Vedas?

A:  The second section (uthara bhaaga), by and large elucidates the nature of the Supreme Being, the Brahman, which creates, sustains and destroys the universe.  The first section (poorva bhaaga), by and large elucidates the methods of worshipping the Supreme Being through the sacrficial offerings called the 'yaagaas'.  While the first section consisting of 'yaagaas' is called the 'karma bhaaga', which means the active aspect, the second section is called the 'Brahma bhaaga' or 'Gnyaana bhaaga', which means the passive intellectual aspect.
