Svāmi Maṇavāḻa Māmuňigaḻ is the charama acharyan in the Acharya guru parampara haaram ( that starts with Lord Sri Ranganatha Himself). Periya perumal's quest for the ultimate Acharya was achieved with the avataram of Maṇavāḻa Māmuňigaḻ and he accepted Maṇavāḻa Māmuňigaḻ as His acharya, thereby completing the guruparamparai ratna haaram.
Swami's 646th birth anniversary is fittingly celebrated worldwide, exactly as Periya Perumal would like. In North America, many cities celebrated the auspicious Aippasi thirumoolam festival in various temples and homes. In this article, we wish to detail the celebrations held in Seattle.
Seattle Aippasi Thirumoolam Celebrations - 2016
In the Seattle metro, aippasi thirumoolam utsavam was celebrated grandly for 10 days in various Srivaishnava homes and 1 day in the Lakshmi Venkateswara temple.
For each day of the utsavam, 1 centum of Nammazhvar's thiruvaimozhi was recited along with Sri Devaraja Mangalam. During the weekend, Pillai Lokacharya's SriVachana Booshanam and Mumukshupadi were recited. The utsavam also included Upanyasams on 9 out of the 10 days. These Upanyasams were provided by stalwarts from India, through Skype or audio conferencing.
The utsavam had a glorious start by Sri. U.Ve.Vinjimoor Venkatachariar Swami, descendant of Arulalaperumal Emberumaanaar from Srivilliputhur through Skype. Vinjimoor Swami talked about the greatness of Manavaala Mamunigal's avatharam and also kick started the sevakalam.
On Deepavali day, the utsavam was graced by Sri. U.Ve. Thenthirupperai Aravindhalochanan swami's Skype upanyasam on Maṇavāḻa Māmuňigaḻ's composition about Perarulaalan, Sri. Devaraaja Mangalam.
Sri. U.Ve. Prathivadi Bayankaram Rajahamsam Swami exemplified Māmuňigaḻ's Guna Poorthi and Srivaishnava Lakshanam. Sri. U.Ve. Akkarakani Srinidhi Swami mesmerized us with the similarities between Emperumanar and Māmuňigaḻ.
In addition to the upanyasams by stalwarts from India, Seattle's budding local Upanyasakars also provided comprehensive talks on Arthi prabandham, Kovil Kandhadai Annan charithram, Poyyilaadha Manavaala Mamunigal, Thiruvaimozhi 8th centum etc. It is very heartwarming and reassuring for the North American Srivaishnava community to know that locals can deliver upanyasams, carrying on the beacon of our Sampradayam in USA for generations to come.
As part of the celebrations at the local temple, Thirumanjanam was performed for both Mamunigal and Lord Venkateshwara. Maṇavāḻa Māmuňigaḻ's thirumanjanam was conducted at the feet of Sri Venkateshwara perumal. It felt like Perumal was pointing his varadha hastham towards Māmuňigaḻ, showing us that Māmuňigaḻ is the one to be followed. The sevakalam included Thiruppallandu, Thiruppalliezhuchi, Thiruppavai, Amalanadhipiran, Kanninum Siruthambu, Gnyaana saaram, Prameya saaram, Thiruvaimozhi Nootranthaathi, Dinacharyai, Yatiraja Vimshati and Arthi Prabandham. This was followed by purappadu of Manavaala Mamunigal, around Perumal's praakaaram.
During bhOjyaasanam, 8 Srivaishnava children brought before our eyes the ashtadiggajas appointed by Svāmi Maṇavāḻa Māmuňigaḻ. They performed a mini sangeetha upanyasam, singing and explaining the meanings of podhu taniyans and 8 pasurams from Upadesa Rathina Maalai.
Vedics brings to you the recording of these upanyasams and the children's program. We hope you can relive the wonderful experiences of the Seattle goshti.
